Carinotetraodon cf. lorteti 'Red-tail' is an Indochinese locale form distinguished by an additional reddish colouration extending into the caudal fin, contrasting with the species' characteristic red eyes. It inhabits slow-moving vegetated watercourses in Thailand and Cambodia and shares the care requirements of the nominal Redeye Dwarf Puffer.
Water: 24–28°C, pH 6.5–7.5, soft to moderately hard; excellent water quality with regular partial changes. Tank: Minimum 50 L; densely planted with Java moss, fine-leaved plants, and driftwood for territory. Feeding: Ramshorn snails, bloodworm, daphnia, and micro-crustaceans. Behaviour: Territorial and aggressive toward conspecifics; male aggression is high. Compatibility: Species-only; one male per tank minimum — multiple males only in heavily planted 100+ L systems.
