Aulonocara sp. 'Lwanda' is a locality variant collected near Lwanda in Lake Malawi and is famous among peacock enthusiasts for the vivid red-orange colouration that develops along the dorsal fin and upper body of dominant males. It is moderately large for a peacock and requires good water quality to develop its full colour potential.
Water: 24-28°C, pH 7.5-8.5, hard alkaline; pristine water promotes best colour. Tank: 200L minimum with significant open swimming space and sandy substrate. Feeding: High-quality pellets, krill, mysis; colour-enhancing foods beneficial. Behaviour: Males sparr with rivals; recommended 1 male to 3-4 females per species. Compatibility: Excellent with other haps; avoid mixing with multiple Aulonocara males.
