Neocaridina davidi var.
Also known as: Red Velvet Shrimp, Dark Red Neocaridina
Origin: Captive bred (Neocaridina davidi lineage)
Red Velvet Shrimp are a high-saturation red colour morph of Neocaridina davidi, selectively bred for maximum red pigment expression resulting in a dense, velvety opaque appearance distinct from the more translucent standard cherry shrimp. Top-grade females display a near-solid deep crimson throughout, including the tail fan. They are as hardy and prolific as other Neocaridina and require no special care beyond standard shrimp tank maintenance.
Water: 18–26°C, pH 6.5–7.5, GH 6–15, KH 2–8; tolerates dechlorinated tap water. Tank: minimum 20 L, dark substrate, live plants, and moss for cover and biofilm. Feeding: biofilm, algae wafers, blanched greens, quality shrimp pellets. Behaviour: active grazers; peaceful; breeds readily in stable conditions. Compatibility: shrimp-safe tank mates only; avoid predatory fish.
