Carassius auratus
Also known as: Red-White Ranchu, Bi-color Ranchu, Fancy Goldfish
Origin: Japan
The Red-White Ranchu is one of the most sought-after color forms for competitive goldfish shows, where crisp red and white contrast is highly valued. Its dorsal-fin-free back should have a smooth, well-defined arch. Feeding high-quality sinking foods and maintaining stable, cool water maximizes its show potential.
Water: 10–22°C, pH 6.5–7.5, excellent filtration, 30% water change weekly. Tank: minimum 150 L, shallow depth preferred, sand substrate. Feeding: sinking pellets, fresh peas, frozen daphnia — avoid floating foods. Behaviour: gentle and unhurried; spends most time near the bottom of the tank. Compatibility: best with other ranchu; can also mix with lionhead goldfish.
