Caridina cantonensis var. (Taiwan Bee)
Also known as: Red Wine Shrimp, Taiwan Bee Red Wine
Origin: Captive bred (Taiwan Bee lineage)
The Red Wine Shrimp is a celebrated Taiwan Bee Caridina variant produced through selective crosses between Crystal Red and Black King Kong lineages. It displays a uniquely saturated, deep burgundy-wine red colouration quite unlike the brighter red of Crystal Reds, with white markings that may appear as points, larger patches, or broader coverage depending on grade.
The richness and saturation of the red pigmentation gives the Red Wine a jewel-like depth and intensity. Higher-grade specimens with greater white coverage command significant premiums among Caridina collectors. Like all Taiwan Bee variants, this shrimp requires immaculate soft, acidic water with minimal carbonate hardness.
Keeping Red Wine Shrimp successfully requires RO water, active buffering substrate, and meticulous parameter management. In ideal conditions, they breed consistently and produce spectacularly beautiful offspring.
Water: 18–23°C, pH 5.8–6.5, GH 3–6, KH 0–1, TDS 100–150; RO water mandatory. Tank: minimum 20 L, active buffering substrate required; sponge filter to protect juveniles. Feeding: snowflake food, biofilm powders, algae wafers; feed sparingly and remove uneaten food. Breeding: moderate; small clutches of 15–20 eggs; juveniles extremely small and delicate. Compatibility: species-only or with other Taiwan Bee variants; absolutely no fish.
