Chaetodon paucifasciatus
Origin: Red Sea
The Redback or Crown Butterflyfish (Chaetodon paucifasciatus) is a beautiful Red Sea endemic with a white body adorned with fine chevron markings and a striking red-orange saddle across the back and tail base. Its regional restriction to the Red Sea makes it less commonly available than other butterflies. It adapts reasonably well to aquarium life and can be kept in a FOWLR setup when fed a varied diet. Not reef-safe.
Minimum 180 L FOWLR with live rock and open swimming space. pH 8.1–8.4, salinity 1.020–1.025, temperature 22–27°C. Feed frozen mysis, krill, brine shrimp, and vitamin-enriched marine preparations. Not reef-safe — may eat tubeworms and invertebrates. Peaceful with most non-aggressive fish. One per tank unless mated pair.
