Copadichromis borleyi
Also known as: Redfin Hap, Borleyi, Kadango Red Fin
Origin: Lake Malawi, Africa
Copadichromis borleyi is a widespread and popular haplochromine found throughout Lake Malawi in open water above rocky habitats. Dominant males develop spectacular blue body colouration with contrasting red-orange dorsal, caudal, and anal fins. Females and subdominant males display a more muted brownish coloration with a dark mid-lateral stripe.
Water: 24-28°C, pH 7.5-8.5, hard alkaline with strong filtration for a large fish. Tank: 300L minimum; ample open swimming space with rocky background décor. Feeding: Good quality cichlid pellets and frozen krill or mysis for best colour. Behaviour: Relatively peaceful for its size; males can be competitive with rivals. Compatibility: Excellent with other large Malawi haps; avoid small fish it may prey on.
