Apistogramma regani
Origin: Brazil, Peru (Solimões, Juruá, Purús)
Apistogramma regani is a widespread and variable dwarf cichlid from the Solimões, Juruá, and Purús drainages in Brazil and Peru, with males showing an attractive mosaic of blue iridescent scales, a dark lateral band, and rounded caudal fin with red submarginal banding. One of the more adaptable species in the genus, tolerating moderately soft to neutral water well. An excellent starting point for hobbyists exploring less common Apistogramma species.
Minimum 80 L planted tank with caves and hiding spots. pH 5.5–7.2, GH 2–12, KH 0–5, temperature 24–28°C. Feed varied carnivore diet: micro-worms, bloodworm, daphnia, baby brine shrimp. Keep as pair or in harem of one male with 2–3 females. Semi-aggressive during spawning — provide multiple caves for females. Compatible with small peaceful schooling fish.
