Rhabdoblennius nitidus
Origin: Western Pacific
The Reticulated Blenny (Rhabdoblennius nitidus) is a subtly beautiful combtooth blenny with a fine reticulated pattern of brown and white markings and large, expressive eyes. A dedicated microalgae grazer, it methodically combs rock surfaces throughout the day and is a practical addition to any reef aquarium with algae management concerns. Modest size and peaceful demeanour make it compatible with most community reef setups.
Minimum 80 L reef or FOWLR with rockwork for grazing and hiding. pH 8.1–8.4, salinity 1.020–1.025, temperature 24–28°C. Primarily microalgae grazer — supplement with nori and spirulina if live algae is insufficient. Peaceful with most species; one per tank as territorial with conspecifics. Reef-safe. Generally doesn't bother corals.
