Chaetodon reticulatus
Origin: Pacific Ocean
The Reticulated Butterflyfish (Chaetodon reticulatus) features a dark grey body covered with a fine white-edged scale network, a white face, and bright yellow dorsal, anal, and tail fins. An obligate corallivore in nature, it is among the more demanding butterflies to transition to captive diets. Best reserved for experienced aquarists with specialist feeding approaches including live coral fragments or frozen coral-based diets.
Minimum 220 L FOWLR or specialist reef. pH 8.1–8.4, salinity 1.020–1.025, temperature 22–27°C. Transition to frozen mysis, krill, and clam meat from live coral offerings. May refuse prepared foods initially — patience required. Peaceful with fish. Not reef-safe — will eat corals. Advanced care required; not suitable for beginners.
