About

Potamotrygon reticulata is found in major river systems of Venezuela and Colombia and is one of the larger Potamotrygon species. Its reticulated pattern of pale lines against a dark brown background is highly distinctive and makes it immediately identifiable among freshwater stingrays. It requires the same demanding care regime as all potamotrygonid rays.

Care Guide

Water: 24-28°C, pH 5.5-7.0, soft, excellent filtration; zero tolerance for nitrogenous waste accumulation. Tank: Minimum 800L, very wide footprint, deep fine sand, no sharp objects in the tank. Feeding: Carnivore; earthworms, prawns, mussel, squid placed directly on sand. Behaviour: Semi-aggressive; venomous tail — extreme caution during maintenance. Compatibility: Large fish that remain well clear of the substrate; large catfish or large arowana.
