Corydoras reynoldsi
Also known as: Reynolds' Cory, Crescent-mask Cory
Origin: Colombia
Corydoras reynoldsi is a small, lively species from Colombia, characterised by a dark crescentic mask passing through the eye region and fine spotting distributed across the flanks. The body is pale cream to silver with a slight iridescent quality. It originates from Colombian drainage systems that are influenced by both clear and whitewater river inputs, giving the species moderate adaptability to water chemistry.
Despite being named and described for decades, C. reynoldsi remains a rarity in the hobby. It is occasionally available through Colombian specialist exporters, and specimens are primarily sought by Corydoras enthusiasts building representative collections of the genus. It is a rewarding species once established, being active, personable, and easy to observe.
Care follows standard intermediate cory protocols: fine substrate, clean water, group of six or more, and a varied diet. The species co-exists peacefully with all suitable community fish and will not disturb plants or other inhabitants.
Water: Soft to moderately hard, pH 5.8–7.0, temperature 23–27°C; avoid large or sudden water parameter swings. Tank: 60 L with sand substrate, some driftwood and plant cover, and moderate filtration. Feeding: Sinking micro-pellets, frozen bloodworm, Daphnia, and Tubifex worms. Breeding: Rarely bred; typical cory spawning method; conditioning with live foods important. Compatibility: Peaceful with tetras, small cichlids, and other community species from Colombia.
