Ricordea florida
Origin: Caribbean Sea
Ricordea florida, the Caribbean Ricordea, is the most visually spectacular mushroom coral, displaying a distinctive surface covered in vivid bubble-like vesicles in intense combinations of orange, green, blue, and purple. Unlike smooth Discosoma mushrooms, each Ricordea disc is uniquely patterned and coloured, making it highly collectible. It is slightly more demanding than Discosoma but still suitable for beginners with a stable, established reef.
Low to medium PAR (50–200). Very gentle, indirect flow — strong flow causes retraction. Alk 8–10 dKH, Ca 400–450 ppm, temp 24–27°C. More sensitive to parameter swings than Discosoma. Place in shaded areas or on the sides of rock formations. Can be target fed with small meaty foods for faster growth. Frag by cutting disc; regeneration is slower than Discosoma. Caribbean specimens only from sustainable aquaculture sources.
