Heteractis magnifica
Origin: Indo-Pacific, Red Sea
Heteractis magnifica (Magnificent or Ritteri Anemone) is the largest and most spectacular host anemone available, with an oral disc that can exceed 50 cm in diameter covered in a dense carpet of thick, club-tipped tentacles. The natural host of True Percula Clownfish, it is prized for producing stunning clownfish-anemone symbiosis displays. Its demanding requirements — pristine water, intense lighting, and strong flow — make it a species best suited to experienced reef aquarists.
Minimum 300 L mature reef with intense lighting (400+ PAR at base) and strong flow. pH 8.1–8.4, salinity 1.023–1.025, temperature 25–28°C. Feed meaty foods (silversides, mysis, clams) 1–2× weekly. Tends to wander in new tanks, stinging corals — fix position with rubble or let it settle in open sand. Very sensitive to parameter changes and low pH. Long-term commitment — lives for decades.
