Danio robertsi
Also known as: Robertsi Danio
Origin: Southeast Asia
Danio robertsi is a slender, modestly coloured danio from Southeast Asian river systems. Its silvery body carries a faint blue-green iridescence that rewards observation under good lighting, and males show slightly more colour than females. Although not as flamboyant as some relatives, it is an unpretentious, adaptable species that is easy to care for and completely peaceful. It inhabits shallow, moderately flowing rivers and streams with sandy or gravel substrates in the wild. In the aquarium it does best in groups of six or more in a planted community tank with open swimming space. Diet is straightforward: it accepts all standard small aquarium foods. Water quality should be maintained with regular partial water changes. A good choice for aquarists building a collection of lesser-known Asian cyprinids.
Water: Temperature 20–26 °C, pH 6.5–7.5, GH 5–15; good filtration and regular water changes. Tank: 60 L minimum; planted community layout with open midwater swimming lanes. Feeding: Accepts flake, micro-pellet, frozen daphnia, cyclops, and baby brine shrimp. Breeding: Egg-scatterer; spawns over fine plants in a dedicated breeding tank. Compatibility: Peaceful with all standard community fish; no aggression reported.
