Pethia conchonius
Origin: South Asia (Bangladesh, India)
The female Rosy Barb has a more subdued golden-olive colouration compared to the male but is equally hardy and active. Best kept in groups with males to promote natural schooling behaviour and reduce stress. An excellent choice for cooler community aquariums and one of the most suitable barbs for beginning fishkeepers due to its exceptional hardiness.
Minimum 100 L with open swimming space and some plant cover. pH 6.0–7.5, GH 5–20, KH 2–10, temperature 18–22°C (cool water). Feed quality flake, micro pellets, and occasional frozen foods. Keep in mixed-sex groups of 6+. Compatible with other cool-water species: white cloud mountain minnows, Roseline sharks, temperate danios. Avoid heated tropical tanks.
