About
Nannostomus mortenthaleri — the ruby red or coral red pencilfish — is considered the most brilliantly coloured of all pencilfish. Males in peak condition are almost entirely red from nose to tail. It originates from Peru's Nanay River and requires soft, warm, acidic water and a well-planted, dark aquarium to show its best colouration. A spectacular species for experienced planted tank enthusiasts. Groups of 8+ display vivid colour without the shyness of smaller groups.
