Centropyge ferrugata
Origin: Philippines, Japan, Western Pacific
The Rusty Angelfish (Centropyge ferrugata) is named for its distinctive rusty-orange body covered with irregular dark spots and streaks, creating a beautifully mottled appearance unlike other Centropyge. Found across the Philippines to Japan, it is a moderately hardy dwarf angelfish that performs well in established reef or FOWLR aquariums with ample live rock for grazing and shelter. Feed a varied diet including spirulina-enriched foods, mysis shrimp, and quality angelfish preparations.
Provide a well-established aquarium with abundant live rock for natural grazing behaviour. May nip at LPS corals and clam mantles — monitor in reef tanks. Feed multiple small meals daily of mysis shrimp, frozen blends, and algae-based preparations. Introduce after the aquarium is fully cycled. Best kept singly unless a proven pair is available.
