Amphiprion polymnus
Origin: Indo-West Pacific (Philippines, Australia, Japan)
The Saddleback Clownfish (Amphiprion polymnus) is instantly recognisable by its distinctive white saddle-shaped patch on the mid-body contrasting with a rich dark brown to black colouration. Found across the Indo-West Pacific, it is an engaging and characterful species that commands attention in reef displays. It is notably tolerant of a variety of anemone host species. Like all clownfish, pairs are formed from size hierarchy — the larger fish becomes the dominant female.
Provide suitable anemone hosts such as Haddon's Carpet Anemone or Merten's Anemone for natural behaviour, though anemones are not strictly required. Feed a varied omnivore diet of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and quality marine pellets. Semi-aggressive towards other clownfish species; keep as a mated pair. Reef-safe with caution — may host in soft corals if no anemone is present.
