Zebrasoma veliferum
Origin: Pacific Ocean (Hawaii, Indo-Pacific)
The Sailfin Tang (Zebrasoma veliferum) is one of the most visually impressive tangs in the hobby, with dramatically large dorsal and anal fins that fan outward in a stunning sail-like display when the fish is active. Its body features intricate vertical banding in brown, yellow, and white that becomes even more vivid when fins are fully spread. Native to the Pacific Ocean from Hawaii to the Indo-Pacific, it is an active, energetic herbivore suited to large, well-established reef aquariums.
Requires a large aquarium (minimum 500L) with open swimming space and ample live rock for grazing. Feed a diverse herbivore diet including nori seaweed, spirulina-based foods, mysis shrimp, and quality herbivore pellets. Provide continuous seaweed sheets on a clip. Semi-aggressive towards other tangs; introduce as the last tang in a system. Susceptible to ich — quarantine new arrivals.
