Percnon gibbesi
Origin: Tropical Atlantic and Indo-Pacific
The Sally Lightfoot Crab (Percnon gibbesi) is a fast-moving, visually striking marine crab with a flattened disc-like body decorated with iridescent blue and green markings along its legs and carapace. A versatile omnivorous scavenger, it grazes heavily on algae including nuisance species that other clean-up crew members ignore. Its speed, agility, and bold daytime activity make it one of the most entertaining crab species for reef aquariums.
Provide ample rock and caves for shelter. Generally reef-safe with corals but may disturb small, slow-moving invertebrates. Feed a varied diet of algae, frozen foods, and detritus. One per 100L is a good stocking density. Ensure a tight-fitting lid as this highly agile crab is an excellent climber. Provide supplemental feeding if algae supply is limited.
