Cyprinus carpio
Origin: Captive bred (Japan)
The Sanke (Taisho Sanshoku) is one of the prestigious Gosanke trio alongside Kohaku and Showa, displaying a white base body adorned with red (hi) and black (sumi) markings. This jumbo specimen has a fully expressed tri-colour pattern across a broad, well-proportioned body and commands attention in any large Nishikigoi collection. Sumi markings deepen and develop character as the fish matures, making each individual unique over its lifetime.
Requires a large, well-filtered pond (minimum 5000L for jumbo specimens) with biological filtration capable of handling the bioload. Feed high-quality koi pellets appropriate for season and temperature; reduce feeding below 10°C. Maintain water quality with regular testing; koi are sensitive to ammonia and nitrite. Predator protection (net or pond guardian) is essential for valuable specimens.
