Cyprinus carpio
Origin: Captive bred (Japan)
The Sanke (Taisho Sanshoku) is one of the most beloved and prestigious koi varieties, featuring a white body decorated with red (hi) and developing black (sumi) markings. At medium size, the sumi markings are beginning to express their full character, and the fish will continue to develop more complex patterning as it grows. A staple of Dutch Nishikigoi collections and Belgian garden pond displays.
House in a well-filtered pond of 1000L or more, with biological filtration sized for the full grown fish. Feed quality koi pellets year-round, reducing frequency and quantity as water temperatures drop below 10°C. Perform regular water changes (10–20% weekly) and monitor ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate. Provide adequate depth (minimum 1.2m) for overwintering in Belgian conditions.
