Also known as: Santarem Red-eye Tetra, Santarem Tetra
Origin: Brazil (lower Tapajós near Santarém, Pará)
The Santarém population of Moenkhausia sanctaefilomenae collected from the lower Tapajós River near Santarém, Brazil, displays a slightly larger average body size and more pronounced deep-red iris coloration compared to typical material from the Paraguay and Paraná systems. Behaviorally and in terms of care requirements it is identical to other Red-eyed Tetra populations: very hardy, adaptable, energetic, and prolific. Feeding: Omnivore; accepts all standard aquarium foods eagerly. Breeding: Prolific egg-scatterer; spawns easily in neutral water. Compatibility: Peaceful; widely compatible with most community species of similar size.
