Carassius auratus
Also known as: Sarasa Comet, Red-White Comet, Sarasa Goldfish
Origin: USA/Japan
The Sarasa Comet is the most popular comet variety, featuring a bold bi-color pattern of red and white that stands out brilliantly against the backdrop of a garden pond. It is just as hardy and active as the standard comet and is one of the best choices for a low-maintenance pond fish that provides great visual impact throughout the year.
Water: 10–22°C, pH 6.5–7.5, excellent for outdoor ponds in all temperate climates. Tank: minimum 200 L; pond keeping is strongly recommended to show its colors best. Feeding: floating pond pellets, plant material, occasional worms; hardy eater. Behaviour: bold, fast, and highly visible — an ideal surface-level pond fish. Compatibility: other comets, shubunkin, common goldfish, and medium-sized koi.
