Chromis opercularis
Origin: Indo-Pacific, Red Sea to Western Pacific
Chromis opercularis is a mid-sized chromis from the Indo-Pacific and Red Sea, displaying a silvery-grey body with subtle scale patterning and a delicately forked tail. Its understated elegance and exceptional hardiness make it an excellent long-term reef inhabitant, particularly for aquarists who want schooling activity without the aggression associated with many damselfish. Often overlooked in favour of flashier species, it rewards keepers with a natural, graceful school presence.
Keep in groups of 5 or more for natural schooling behaviour. Peaceful and adaptable; compatible with most reef inhabitants. Feed a varied omnivore diet of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and quality marine flake. Hardy and tolerant of typical aquarium fluctuations. Provide open swimming space in the upper and middle water column. Excellent choice for beginners setting up a reef community.
