Neopomacentrus bankieri
Origin: Indo-West Pacific (India to Philippines)
Neopomacentrus bankieri (Scaly Demoiselle) is a small, hardy damselfish from the Indo-West Pacific with a brownish-grey body accented by fine blue iridescent highlights along the upper flanks. It inhabits sheltered reef areas and estuaries and is one of the most resilient and water-quality-tolerant demoiselles available for aquarium keeping. While sometimes overlooked, its low aggression relative to other damsels and robust constitution make it a practical choice.
Provide a mixed reef or FOWLR aquarium with live rock for shelter and territory. Keep in groups of 5+ for natural schooling behaviour. Feed a varied omnivore diet of mysis shrimp, marine flake, and quality frozen blends. Hardy and adaptable to a wide range of water parameters, though standard reef chemistry is preferred. Among the most beginner-friendly damselfish available.
