Moenkhausia oligolepis
Origin: Amazon basin, South America
Moenkhausia oligolepis (Glass Tetra or Scaly Moenkhausia) is a widely distributed Amazon basin tetra recognised by its large scales outlined in dark pigment, creating a beautiful net-like pattern across its silvery body. A hardy, peaceful, and adaptable species that tolerates varying water parameters well, it is an excellent choice for large community aquariums alongside other South American tetras and characins.
Keep in groups of 8 or more for natural schooling behaviour. Tolerates a broad range of water conditions from soft-acidic to moderately hard. Feed a varied omnivore diet of quality flake, micro pellets, frozen bloodworm, and Daphnia. Provide a planted aquarium with open swimming areas. Easy to breed in captivity. An ideal, low-maintenance schooling fish for beginners.
