Paguristes cadenati
Origin: Caribbean Sea
Paguristes cadenati (Scarlet Reef Hermit Crab) is one of the most popular reef clean-up crew members worldwide, with bright scarlet legs and yellow eyestalks making it easy to spot as it actively grazes film algae, hair algae, and cyanobacteria across rock and substrate surfaces. Fully reef-safe and coexisting peacefully with corals, shrimp, and other invertebrates, it is a reliable and visually appealing addition to any reef CUC team.
Stock at approximately 1 per 40L alongside other CUC members for effective algae control. Provide spare shells of varying sizes to prevent eviction of snails. Safe with all corals and most invertebrates. Acclimate slowly via drip method. Feed will naturally graze biofilm and algae; supplement detritus when algae supply is low. Never use copper-based medications with hermit crabs present.
