Also known as: Schwartz's Cory, Schwartzi Cory
Origin: South America (Brazil — Rio Purus)
Corydoras schwartzi inhabits the Rio Purus drainage in Brazil, favouring slow-moving, shallow waters with sandy or muddy substrates. It is a hardy and adaptable species well-suited to community aquariums, displaying typical corydoras behaviour of active substrate sifting in groups. Its dark dorsal fin blotch and crisp stripe make it a visually distinctive choice.
Water: 22–26°C, pH 6.0–7.5, soft to moderately hard (GH 2–15). Tank: 60 L minimum; fine sand substrate; open swimming areas interspersed with shelters. Feeding: Sinking pellets, wafers, frozen bloodworm and daphnia. Behaviour: Active daytime schooler; keep in groups of 6+. Compatibility: Peaceful with all community fish; avoids fin-nippers.
