Rasbora trilineata
Origin: Borneo, Sumatra (Indonesia, Malaysia)
Rasbora trilineata (Scissortail Rasbora) is a lively, torpedo-shaped species from the rivers and streams of Borneo and Sumatra, named for the distinctive scissor-like flicking motion of its forked, black-and-white tipped tail during swimming. A fast and active schooler best appreciated in a spacious tank with open swimming areas, it is a classic but underappreciated alternative to the more common cyprinids found in Belgian shops.
Keep in groups of 8 or more in an aquarium with open swimming space. Provide gentle to moderate current. Feed quality flake, micro pellets, frozen bloodworm, and Daphnia. Tolerates a range of water conditions from slightly soft-acidic to moderately hard. Avoid small, slow-moving tankmates that may be outcompeted. A hardy, straightforward species that rewards with active, lively schooling behaviour.
