Zebrasoma scopas
Origin: Indo-Pacific (East Africa to Pacific)
The Scopas Tang (Zebrasoma scopas) is a subtly beautiful species with a brownish body covered in fine yellowish horizontal lines that become more pronounced toward the tail. While less flamboyant than some relatives, it is a highly regarded and reliable algae grazer and one of the hardiest tangs available in the hobby. Its understated elegance and constant grazing behaviour make it a practical and attractive long-term addition to reef systems.
Provide a spacious aquarium (250L+) with abundant live rock for grazing and open swimming lanes. Feed a diverse herbivore diet — nori seaweed on a clip daily, spirulina-enriched pellets, and occasional mysis shrimp. One of the more forgiving Zebrasoma species for beginners. May be aggressive towards other tangs; introduce as the last tang in a system. Susceptible to ich — quarantine before introduction.
