Astraea caelata
Origin: Caribbean Sea
The Sculptured Astraea Snail (Astraea caelata) features an ornately ridged shell with star-like sculptural markings that make it as visually appealing as it is functional. This Caribbean species is a diligent grazer of film algae and diatoms on rock and substrate surfaces, making it a valued clean-up crew member. Reef-safe and compatible with all corals and invertebrates.
Stock at 1 snail per 10–20L of aquarium volume as part of a diverse clean-up crew. Cannot right itself if flipped upside-down — manually reposition if this occurs. Sensitive to copper-based medications and rapid salinity changes; acclimate slowly. Provide calcium-supplemented water (400–450 ppm) for healthy shell maintenance. Excellent for controlling diatom blooms in new aquariums.
