Heteractis crispa
Origin: Indo-Pacific
The Sebae or Leathery Anemone (Heteractis crispa) has elegant, tapering, pointed tentacles in cream or white often with purple or pink tips, giving it a spindly appearance distinct from bubble-tip varieties. In the wild it is the most common host for Clark's Clownfish and is reasonably accepting of several other clownfish species. A long-lived anemone reaching over 40 cm across when fully expanded, it requires intense lighting, pristine water quality, and stable conditions to maintain zooxanthellae and natural colouration.
Provide high-intensity lighting (LED reef spectrum or equivalent) and very stable water parameters (NSW quality). Allow the anemone to choose its own position — do not force placement. Feed meaty foods (shrimp, fish, squid) 2–3 times per week. Monitor for bleaching (white colour) which indicates loss of zooxanthellae. Handle very gently and never expose to air. Advanced care for experienced reef keepers only.
