Danio seddeni
Also known as: Seddeni Danio
Origin: Myanmar
Danio seddeni is an uncommon species from the rivers and hill streams of Myanmar, described in the modern era of cyprinid taxonomy. It inhabits clear-water streams over sandy and rocky substrates, where it forms active schools in open water. The body is streamlined and silvery with faint iridescent lateral markings. In the aquarium it requires clean, well-oxygenated water and benefits from a moderate current produced by a spray bar or internal power filter. It is a peaceful fish that mixes well with other small, active cyprinids and is entirely harmless to invertebrates and smaller companions. Like most danios it will scatter eggs over fine plants or spawning mops without any special conditioning. The species remains uncommon in the hobby and is mainly found through specialist importers.
Water: Temperature 20–26 °C, pH 6.5–7.5, GH 5–12; well-oxygenated with moderate to good flow. Tank: 60 L minimum; open swimming space, planted margins, fine sand or smooth gravel substrate. Feeding: Flake, micro-pellet, frozen daphnia, cyclops, and baby brine shrimp. Breeding: Egg-scatterer similar to congeners; use spawning mop in separate tank; remove adults after spawning. Compatibility: Peaceful with all similarly sized community species; avoid aggressive or very large tankmates.
