Corydoras semiaquilus
Origin: Peru, Ecuador (upper Amazon drainage)
Corydoras semiaquilus is a darkly coloured and rarely seen cory catfish from the upper Amazon drainage in Peru and Ecuador, displaying an almost entirely dark olive-brown body with subtle patterning. Hardy and adaptable once established, it prefers soft, slightly acidic water and is best maintained in groups of six or more on fine sand substrate that protects its delicate barbels. A quality choice for collectors of unusual Corydoras species.
Provide fine sand substrate — coarse gravel damages the sensitive barbels essential for bottom feeding. Keep in groups of 6 or more for natural schooling behaviour. Feed sinking micro pellets, frozen bloodworm, baby brine shrimp, and Daphnia. Soft, slightly acidic water (pH 6.0–7.5) preferred. Sensitive to ammonia and nitrite; maintain excellent water quality with regular partial changes.
