Chaetodon semilarvatus
Origin: Red Sea
The Golden or Bluecheek Butterflyfish (Chaetodon semilarvatus) is a Red Sea endemic and one of the most prized and beautiful butterflyfish in the hobby, displaying a brilliant golden-yellow body with fine orange-red vertical stripes and a vivid blue mask across the face. Moderately hardy for a butterflyfish, it can often be trained to eat frozen and prepared foods. Best kept as a mated pair in a spacious FOWLR aquarium.
Provide a large, well-established FOWLR aquarium with abundant live rock and stable NSW-quality water. Acclimate to captivity feeding with live brine shrimp, then transition gradually to frozen mysis, brine shrimp, and quality enriched frozen blends. Best kept as a bonded pair which provides social confidence. Not reef-safe — may nip at soft corals and LPS.
