Sesarma mederi
Origin: South Asia, Southeast Asia (mangrove coasts)
Sesarma mederi is a semi-terrestrial mangrove crab from South and Southeast Asia that thrives in paludariums replicating brackish mangrove habitats. A robust and adaptable species tolerating a range of salinities from fresh to brackish, it decomposes leaf litter, grazes algae, and scavenges detritus — contributing to the natural breakdown of organic matter in its enclosure. A charismatic, active crab for specialist paludarium and vivarium setups.
Provide a paludarium or semi-aquatic setup with both water and land areas. Accepts fresh to brackish water (1–5 ppt salinity for best health). Offer varied food: dried leaves, blanched vegetables, frozen bloodworm, and sinking pellets. Provide hiding spots such as cork bark, stones, and dense plants. Provide a tight-fitting lid — this species climbs readily. Keep singly or in small groups with adequate territory.
