Myleus setiger
Also known as: Setiger Myleus
Origin: Orinoco and Amazon basins, South America
Myleus setiger inhabits river systems across the Orinoco and Amazon drainages and is distinguished from other Myleus by subtle morphological features including fin ray extensions in large adult males. Its colouration is a warm silver-bronze with scattered faint spotting and attractive fin tones.
As with all large Myleus, it requires substantial space and plant-based nutrition. Its relatively peaceful disposition and adaptable nature make it one of the more accessible large Myleus for experienced keepers. A group of five or more creates a cohesive, impressive school.
Not restricted under piranha legislation.
