Melanotaenia sexlineata
Origin: Fly River drainage, Papua New Guinea
The Sexlined Rainbowfish (Melanotaenia sexlineata) is named for the six distinct horizontal stripes running along its silvery body, giving it a uniquely patterned appearance compared to most other rainbowfish. Native to the Fly River drainage of Papua New Guinea, it is a lively schooling species that performs well in community setups. The contrast of its stripes with iridescent body scales creates an eye-catching display under good lighting.
Keep in groups of 6 or more for natural schooling behaviour. Provide an aquarium with open swimming space and some planting along the sides and back. Feed quality flake, micro pellets, frozen bloodworm, Daphnia, and brine shrimp. Hardy and adaptable; tolerates a range of neutral water conditions. Best viewed in a species group under overhead or midground lighting that catches their iridescent scales.
