Caridina sp. (Taiwan Bee hybrid)
Also known as: Shadow Panda Shrimp, Shadow Panda
Origin: Captive bred (Taiwan Bee hybrid lineage)
The Shadow Panda Shrimp is a sophisticated Caridina hybrid developed from Taiwan Bee lineages, displaying the familiar black-and-white panda pattern but with an additional dark, shadowy overlay that deepens the black areas and gives specimens a brooding, intensified quality compared to standard Panda Shrimp. The effect is a shrimp with exceptional visual depth and presence.
Like all Taiwan Bee variants, the Shadow Panda demands pristine, soft, acidic water conditions and is best suited to experienced shrimp keepers. Active buffering substrate, RO water remineralised with a Caridina mineral salt, and a mature, fully cycled tank are essential prerequisites.
Shadow Pandas are highly sought after by collectors and command premium prices relative to standard bee shrimp due to the complexity and depth of their patterning.
Water: 18–23°C, pH 5.8–6.6, GH 3–6, KH 0–2, TDS 100–150; RO water with Caridina mineral salt essential. Tank: minimum 20 L with active buffering substrate; sponge filter; dense moss coverage. Feeding: biofilm, snowflake food, shrimp-specific powders, algae wafers in small amounts. Breeding: moderate difficulty; females carry 15–25 eggs for 3–4 weeks; stable parameters critical. Compatibility: species-only or with other Caridina bee shrimp; never with fish.
