Cyprinus carpio
Origin: Captive bred (Japan)
Shiro Bekko is a white koi with bold black (sumi) step-like markings along the back, resembling a tortoiseshell pattern on a pristine white canvas. The clean white body creates a dramatic high-contrast display that stands out beautifully in clear garden ponds. Bekko is one of the classic koi varieties and a favourite among Dutch and Belgian Nishikigoi collectors for its clean, graphic aesthetic.
Require a well-filtered pond (minimum 1000L) with robust biological and mechanical filtration. Feed quality koi pellets appropriate to season and temperature. Reduce feeding as temperatures fall below 10°C and stop below 5°C. Provide minimum 1.2m depth for overwintering in Belgian conditions. Valuable specimens benefit from predator protection netting.
