Rachovia brevis
Also known as: Short Annual Killifish, Brevis Killifish
Origin: Venezuela, Colombia
Rachovia brevis is a small annual killifish found in seasonal pools in Venezuela and Colombia. Despite its modest size, males are vividly coloured with blue-green iridescent scales and orange-edged fins, making them attractive display fish. The species is named for its shorter than average dry incubation period relative to other annuals, though it still requires standard peat-incubation protocols.
Water: 22–26 °C, pH 6.0–7.5, soft and slightly acidic. Tank: 30 L species tank; peat substrate; tight-fitting lid. Feeding: Live Daphnia, Artemia nauplii, micro worms; dried foods sometimes accepted. Behaviour: Males territorial; keep as single male with two females. Compatibility: Species tank only.
