Cyprinus carpio
Origin: Captive bred (Japan)
Showa Sanshoku is the third member of the prestigious Gosanke group, distinguished from Sanke by its predominantly black (sumi) base overlaid with red (hi) and white markings that wrap boldly around the body. This medium specimen shows the developing sumi and will express richer pattern complexity as it matures. Showa are among the most dramatic and sought-after koi at Dutch and Belgian shows.
Provide a well-filtered pond (minimum 1000L) with robust filtration. Feed high-quality koi pellets appropriate to water temperature; reduce feeding below 10°C. Regular water quality testing for ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate is essential. Deeper ponds (1.2–1.5m) allow safe overwintering in Belgian and Dutch winters. Predator protection strongly recommended for quality specimens.
