Cyprinus carpio
Origin: Captive bred (Japan)
Showa Sanshoku koi are distinguished by a predominantly black body overlaid with red (hi) and white markings, giving a bolder and more dramatic appearance than Sanke. This small grade will develop deeper sumi intensity and more vivid hi colouration as it matures in the pond over coming years. An excellent entry point into the highly valued Gosanke group of koi.
Establish in a pond of at least 1000L with appropriate filtration for koi waste. Feed quality floating koi pellets; adjust feeding frequency and quantity to water temperature. Reduce significantly below 10°C; stop entirely below 5°C. Monitor water quality regularly — young koi are sensitive to ammonia and nitrite spikes. Provide adequate depth for safe Belgian overwintering.
