Cyprinus carpio
Origin: Captive bred (Japan)
Shusui is the Doitsu (scale-reduced) form of Asagi koi, featuring a neat row of large, indigo-blue scales along the dorsal ridge contrasted against a clean pale body with vivid orange-red (hi) markings along the flanks. This medium specimen displays the characteristic Shusui elegance that makes it a perennial favourite at Dutch koi auctions and specialist shops. The Doitsu scalation gives it a clean, uncluttered appearance.
Provide a well-filtered pond (1000L+) maintaining water quality appropriate for koi. Feed high-quality colour-enhancing koi pellets to intensify hi colouration. Monitor water quality regularly. Adequate pond depth (minimum 1.2m) is essential for safe Belgian overwintering. Shusui sumi markings and hi balance evolve with age — long-term investment fish.
