Lamprologus signatus
Also known as: Signal Shell Dweller, Signatus Shell Dweller
Origin: Lake Tanganyika, Africa
The Signal Shell Dweller is one of the most distinctly patterned shell dwellers from Lake Tanganyika, with a clean black-and-white banded pattern that makes it immediately recognisable. It occupies empty Neothauma shells and pairs form strong bonds, jointly defending their shell and fry. Despite its size, it is bold and will confront much larger fish.
Water: 24-27°C, pH 7.8-9.0, hard alkaline water; stable parameters critical for shell dwellers. Tank: Minimum 60L; fine sand with multiple Neothauma or craft store shells per pair. Feeding: Micro foods — frozen baby brine shrimp, mysis, cyclops, and small crushed pellets. Behaviour: Pair-bonding; males and females jointly defend shell territory; will dig sand around shells. Compatibility: Best in species tank or with very small peaceful Tanganyika dwellers.
