Osteoglossum bicirrhosum
Origin: Amazon basin, South America
Osteoglossum bicirrhosum, the Silver Arowana, is one of the most iconic large freshwater fish. Its elongated, silvery body with large reflective scales and two prominent chin barbels give it a dragon-like appearance. A surface predator that leaps from the water to catch insects, birds, and small mammals from overhanging branches in the Amazon. Grows to 90+ cm and requires massive tank space. Prized as a good luck symbol in Asian culture. Sold at 12–15 cm juvenile size.
500+ L for adults — minimum tank width equals fish length. Ultra-secure lid — incredible jumper up to 2 m. Temperature 24–30 °C, soft slightly acidic water. Feed floating carnivore pellets, live/frozen fish, crickets, earthworms. Solitary — one per tank. Peaceful with fish too large to swallow.
