Simochromis diagramma

Origin: Lake Tanganyika, Africa
Simochromis diagramma is one of the larger Simochromis species, recognisable by its blue iris and characteristic diagonal marks along the flanks. It inhabits shallow rocky shorelines of Lake Tanganyika in loose shoals, grazing algae and biofilm. A maternal mouthbrooder best kept in groups where males display to each other in a colourful but manageable fashion.
Water: 24-27°C, pH 7.8-9.0, hard alkaline water. Tank: 250L+; extensive rockwork on the back and sides; some open sandy foreground. Feeding: High-quality spirulina flake and pellet; nori sheet on a clip is popular. Behaviour: Moderately aggressive between males; groups of 8+ work best; females mouthbrood 3-4 weeks. Compatibility: Tropheus species, Petrochromis trewavasae, or Limnotilapia dardennii.
