Distichodus sexfasciatus

Distichodus sexfasciatus is a visually arresting species from the Congo River basin, with a vivid orange-red body crossed by bold black vertical bars. Juveniles are the most vividly coloured, with adults becoming somewhat duller but retaining impressive colouration. It is a herbivore that will eat live plants but thrives in large biotope aquariums with robust tankmates.
Water: 23–27°C, pH 6.0–7.5, moderate hardness tolerated. Tank: Minimum 300L; groups of 5+; robust or artificial plants, as it will eat live plants. Feeding: Spirulina flake, blanched vegetables, algae wafers, pellets with vegetable content. Behaviour: Active shoaling species; generally peaceful but large and boisterous with delicate tankmates. Compatibility: Best with other large Congo River fish such as large cichlids, large tetras, and catfish.
